Gussie Hearty is the man who makes sure Dundalk FM’s sports coverage sounds the way it should. He is also the sound engineer for Oriel Park Live and a key contributor to Sports Academy.
Sound engineering at a live football match presents challenges that studio production does not. The ambient noise, the variable positions within the ground, the need for clean audio when the crowd erupts, the technical demands of outside broadcasting in all weather conditions. Gussie handles all of that, week after week, allowing John Murphy and Ger Cunningham to concentrate entirely on the commentary while the technical side is taken care of with precision and calm.
His contribution to Sports Academy alongside John Murphy extends the station’s football coverage beyond match nights, providing a weekly programme that covers Dundalk FC, League of Ireland football, and local sports more broadly across Saturday mornings. His involvement in both programmes makes him one of the most consistent presences in Dundalk FM’s sports output.
