Tom MacSweeney / Presenter

Tom MacSweeney is one of Ireland’s foremost maritime broadcasters, and his programme Seascapes on Dundalk FM 97.7 brings a lifetime of expertise, storytelling, and deep knowledge of Ireland’s relationship with the sea to the station’s airwaves.

Tom spent decades as RTÉ’s maritime correspondent, covering the sea, the fishing industry, the coastguard, the lifeboat service, and the communities that depend on Ireland’s waters in ways that no other broadcaster in the country matched. He was the voice of maritime Ireland on national radio and television for a generation, and the expertise and the contacts he built across those years give Seascapes a depth and authority that is genuinely unique.

His programme on Dundalk FM connects the station’s listeners to a world that is sometimes overlooked in inland-focused media: the working sea, the maritime heritage of County Louth and the wider Irish coast, the lives of the people who fish and sail and serve on the water, and the natural world of Ireland’s coastal environment.

Dundalk sits close enough to Carlingford Lough and the Irish Sea to have its own maritime character, and Tom MacSweeney’s programme gives that character a voice. Seascapes is one of Dundalk FM’s most distinguished programmes, and Tom MacSweeney is one of the most distinguished broadcasters to have sat at any of its microphones. Seascapes airs each 4th Saturday at 9.00am.
