Community Information Hub

If you want to promote the work of your Community Group, Arts, Drama, Voluntary or Sports Organisation – then Dundalk FM is here to help.

  • Tuning in means that you stay up to date with local events and hear about the great work that community and voluntary groups do in Dundalk and the surrounding area.
  • We have a target of 7,000 local voices on air and would like to promote every community group at least once each year.
  • You get a chance to hear from community representatives directly.
  • Dundalk FM is a not for profit Community Media Service. We have nine members of staff, a voluntary board, sub committees over 80 presenters.
  • Community and Sports Groups are welcome to become members and so help to support the station for €30.00 per annum.

Community Radio Production Skills Training (for Local Community Groups) 2025

Time 9.30 am – 4.30 pm

Location: Dundalk FM, Partnership Court, Park Street, Dundalk, A91 HH29.

This is a Community Group Training Course which will provide an interactive and hands-on training programme aimed at preparing participants for roles in a community radio show.

Key components include:

Broadcast Skills Development

  • Team Roles: Understanding roles like researcher, presenter, producer, editor, and sound engineer.

  • Station Terminology: Familiarising with technical terms and processes such as sound desks, gain, promos, running orders, file naming systems, etc.

  • Equipment Usage: Introduction to specific tools like microphones, headphones, digital recorders, setting up and managing a studio desk – using the cue button and playing out audio files, connecting an external audio source, making a phone call.

  • Programme Formats: Learning about radio drama, live music, panel discussions.

  • Radio Content Features: Identifying elements like intros, stings, vox pops, and more.

  • Interview Skills: Hosting a panel discussion, listening back and reviewing the recording.

  • Running Order Creation: Designing a 25-minute magazine show including all necessary segments (e.g., news, weather, ads) and scripting links.

  • Audio Editing: Hands-on practice in recording and editing a promo and sting.

  • Show Production: Collaborating to produce and record a full radio programme.

Supporting Materials

  • Reference Handouts: Includes health and safety, child protection policies, libel guidelines, sample scripts, and radio terminology.

A quiz night, an aid of Friends of St. Oliver’s Hospital, Dundalk takes place in Kehoe’s bar on Quay Street on Friday, the 4th of October.

The quiz starts at 9 PM and there will also be a raffle on the night.

OB Collage 2024

 

Has your community group considered presenting a monthly show. Your members can take part in a three evening course in radio production skills, creating running orders, scripting links, conducting interviews. The programme can be shared on our listen again service. The cost is €300.00 per group.
