The Sound of the 70’s is a music show on Dundalk FM 97.7 dedicated entirely to one of the most diverse and influential decades in popular music history. The 1970s was a decade that refused to stay in one place. It opened with the aftermath of the 1960s cultural revolution still ringing in the air and spent the next ten years producing some of the most adventurous, ambitious, and enduring music ever recorded.
The decade gave the world glam rock and punk, disco and soul, soft rock and hard rock, progressive rock and reggae, singer-songwriters and stadium anthems. From David Bowie and Elton John to Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac, from Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye to The Eagles and ABBA, the 1970s produced a breadth of music that no single genre or movement could contain. It was a decade of contradictions and creativity, and the music it produced reflected all of that energy.
As part of the Dundalk FM schedule, the show joins a wider tradition of decade-specific programming at the station that also includes Back to the 60’s, Saturday Night 80’s, and Totally 90’s. Together these shows form one of the most comprehensive celebrations of popular music across the decades available on any community radio station in Ireland.
The Sound of the 70’s airs each Thursday at 6.00 pm on Dundalk FM 97.7.
