Cathal McCooey / Presenter

Cathal McCooey is one of Dundalk FM 97.7’s most versatile and long-committed volunteers, contributing as a presenter on Town Talk and The Irish Gigs Review Show in a way that has made him a familiar and trusted presence across the station’s weekday and weekend schedule.

On Town Talk, Cathal brings particular expertise in sports, current affairs, arts and culture. His knowledge of the Irish live music scene is deep and genuine, developed over years of attending gigs and following artists across the country. The Irish Gigs Review gives that knowledge a dedicated space on air, with Cathal and Pat Byrne covering the breadth of live music happening across Ireland, from the Spirit Store and other Dundalk venues to the wider national circuit.

Cathal has also been a creative force within the station’s internal development. During the pandemic period he proposed new programme ideas and formats, including a Slane Concert series slot and a concept called Five Degrees of Separation, demonstrating the kind of ongoing creative investment in the station that goes well beyond simply showing up to present a show. He was a key part of the training network that kept Dundalk FM presenters developing their skills remotely during lockdown.
