A weekly news and information service produced by Dundalk Lions Club volunteers for visually impaired listeners, and a Craol Achievement Award Gold winner — one of the most purposeful and community-focused shows on Dundalk FM 97.7.

Dundalk Lions Club At Your Service is one of the most meaningful and community-focused programmes on Dundalk FM 97.7, produced and presented by members of the Dundalk Lions Club. Airing every Thursday evening with a repeat on Sundays, the show is a weekly news and information service primarily aimed at listeners who are visually impaired, providing them with a dedicated radio resource that keeps them informed, connected, and part of the life of their community.

The show has its roots in a half-hour Talking Newspapers programme, one of the earliest and most practical applications of community radio for people with visual impairments. Under the dedicated efforts of Hugh McKitterick and Pat Byrne, that original half-hour format grew into a full one-hour weekly show, expanding its reach and its impact significantly. That growth is a testament to the commitment of the Lions Club members who give their time freely each week to make the programme happen.

Dundalk Lions Club At Your Service is presented by a rotating team of Lions Club volunteers, including Gerry Campbell, David Larkin, John Hennessy, Hugh McKitterick, Tom Donaghy, and Pat Byrne. The rotating team model means the show is never dependent on a single individual, reflecting the collective spirit of the Lions Club itself and ensuring the programme continues week after week with reliability and consistency. The show has also broadcast live outside the studio on occasion, including a memorable outside broadcast from Louth County Museum in October 2019 to promote Dundalk’s Positive Mental Health Week Annual Art Exhibition, demonstrating the team’s willingness to take the programme into the community when the occasion calls for it.

The quality and community impact of the show has been recognised at the highest levels of Irish community radio. Dundalk Lions Club At Your Service was awarded a Craol Achievement Award Gold, the national community radio awards run by Community Radio Ireland, in recognition of the outstanding work the team does for the local community. It is an honour that reflects not just the production quality of the show but the genuine difference it makes to the lives of the people it serves.

The Dundalk Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest and most respected voluntary service organisations, with a long tradition of serving people with visual impairments and other community needs. In Dundalk, the Lions Club has channelled that tradition of service into the airwaves, using the platform of community radio to do something practical and valuable for some of the most underserved members of the local community.

This is the first time that the radio show Dundalk Lions – At Your Service – has been broadcast live outside the studio by the Lions Club.

Dundalk Lions Club At Your Service airs every Thursday at 8pm on Dundalk FM 97.7, with a repeat on Sundays. You can follow the club via the Dundalk Lions Club (Facebook) page. Check the schedule for exact broadcast times.
