Volunteer of the Month Awards In our Engagement Survey last year, many volunteers suggested we introduce a way to recognise exceptional individual volunteer contributions. We are now delighted to announce the launch of a Volunteer of the Month Award. Nominations for the award can be made by any two members of Dundalk FM including volunteers and staff. A nomination form is attached and will be available from reception throughout the year. A reminder will go out each month and nominations can be made at any time. Nominations can be for whatever you feel merits special recognition e.g: listener feedback,outstanding show content, flexibility, support for colleague, advertising referrals, exceptional hours contributed in month, special milestone e.g. 5 year/10 year on air etc. Awards Judging Panel 2019 will include Chairman (Joe Duffy), Manager (Alan Byrne) and Volunteer Liaison Person (Marian Del Duca). Monthly winners will receive a Certificate and a place on the year’s Roll of Honour 2019. There will be a Perpetual Award at year end for an overall Volunteer of the Year who will be chosen by a vote from all members at year end. Would you like to join a team of 20 new radio presenters on a FREE 4-day course starting Thursday October 25th? There is a choice of weekly morning or afternoon sessions. Participants will be expected to take an active part in community radio broadcasting as reporters on completion of the course. There are 10 places for migrants and 10 for local people and this project is supported by the Communities Integration Fund. The Course outcomes are: Skills Increased media literacy and technical skills Sharing their experience with the wider community Evaluating and presenting their new skills and knowledge to the groups they represent Education 1. Dundalk FM would like to invite you to come along to a Coffee Evening this Thursday 10th May between 7pm to 8pm. Are looking for a new hobby? Are you thinking about a third level digital media course? Do you have an idea for a music or community based programme or would you just like to see the studios? We are looking for people like you to join our team of over 81 voluntary community radio broadcasters. You will be invited to take the first steps into broadcasting by recording a one hour show about your favourite band or musician for our weekly ‘Spotlight’ series’. So that’s a date for your diary – Thursday 10th May from 7 at Dundalk FM Studios, Partnership Court, Park Street, Dundalk. Looking forward to seeing you then.
Radio trainees at the end of their 2 day course. Mike Mc Mahon, Pat Hamilton, Peter Kirk and Kevin Larney completed a 30 minute radio show about the Adelphi, Dundalk. To listen to the show click here. They are holding the Cinema Advertising Schedule dated 7th May 1989. Advertisers that day were Murphy Jewellers, Tony McDonnell Menswear, Four Lanterns, Jetstream Travel, James Dearey and John Bereton. Come along to the station on Thursday April 12th at 7pm to find out how you could start recording a radio documentary for Dundalk FM. No experience necessary.
The ideas and enthusiasm for becoming a community radio volunteer was evident at the March Information Evening. Theresa Burns is interested in community development and current affairs. Dan Pope would like to contribute to the sports news team and also to do an alternative music programme. Peter Kirk is preparing a Spotlight show about Jason and the Scorchers. He is interested in how music from years ago is used in films and TV shows nowadays. Faizam Ahmed would like to a monthly show about gadgets, talk about international politics and do a commentary on a cricket match. Mike McMahon has a lot of experience as a music radio presenter and is interested in the back stories and how singers and bands criss cross and overlap each other. Séamus Fee is interested in promoting the Red Cross and Order of Malta. He has a few ideas for a Spotlight including one on Charlie Pride. Kevin Duffy would like to be involved in a programme which promotes health lifestyle and especially outdoor sports like hill climbing. The next Information Evening will be on Thursday 10th May from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm and all are welcome.
